Boat Trip to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Game of Thrones

Spend the day sailing along the Basque coast. We depart from the port of Zumaia and pass by coastal towns until reaching San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (Gaztelugatxe means ‘castle on a rock’ in Basque). This impressive chapel built in the 9th Century is precariously located on a cliff top on the small island. Traditionally, people ring the bell of the chapel three times and make a wish. In order to do so, first you must climb the 241 steps, which are of course, only accessible on foot. Teeming with history the chapel has been a convent for monks, a defensive outpost during the reign of King Alfonso X!, and in the 16th Century was sacked by the famous captain Francis Drake who threw the hermit off the highest point of the island.
